Does Euro Adoption Reduce Central Bank Staff?
Žídeková, Lucia ; Havránek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Fanta, Nicolas (referee)
The thesis examined the impact of euro adoption and joining the EU's Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II) on central bank staff using the synthetic control method. The first part of the work focused on assembling a data set on personnel development and proposing predictors for approximating central bank size. In the second part, the study presents the models and results, revealing a significant decrease in the number of employees at Latvijas Banka after joining ERM II. However, the research encountered limitations due to data unavailability, possible shocks experienced by donor pool countries, and poor fit of pre-intervention characteristics, leading to ambiguous findings regarding the size and significance of the negative effect of euro adoption on personnel development for Latvijas Bank, the National Bank of Slovakia, and Eesti Pank. The reliability of the results for the National Bank of Belgium and the Bank of Finland was affected by a short pre-intervention period and the risk of over-fitting.

The Czech National Bank, its legal position and scope of activities Abstract As the theme of my thesis, I have chosen the Czech National Bank, its legal position and scope of activities. The aim is to analyze the legal position and activities of the CNB. This is a very large topic, due to the wide activities of the CNB at national, European and international level. The CNB is and independent, highly credible and very powerful institution. The CNB is the central bank of the Czech Republic, the financial market supervision authority and the authority to solve crisis. Its main objective is to maintain price stability. Due to the wide range of tasks, I focused on the assessment its monetary policy as its most important business. The implementation of monetary policy is based on the ability to choose the level of interest rates that will keep inflation at a low but stable level and there will be no unnecessary slowdown or acceleration of the growth rate of the economy. The aim of the CNB's transmission mechanism is to keep the overall inflation in the narrow corridor at 1-3 %. By comparing the real development of the average quarterly inflation rate and the forecast of monetary policy-relevant inflation for the period from 3.Q 2008 to 2.Q 2019, it can be concluded that the caused fluctuations could be hardly...

Evaluation of the previous policy of the ECB in terms of its impact on national economies of the eurozone
Kleštinec, Ivan ; Mandel, Martin (advisor) ; Brůna, Karel (referee)
The ECB was established during the third phase of the economic and monetary union and its activities launched on 1. 7. 1998. It has become a new independent institution whose primary task became the conduct of monetary policy for countries that have accepted the euro currency. This bachelor thesis examines the impact of monetary policy in selected countries of the euro area. ECB affects individual national economies using its strategies and instruments, such as interest rates, minimum reserve requirements or change over the amount of money in circulation, whether through expansive or restrictive policy. It tries to act counter-cyclically to stabilize the price level and economic growth or to promote it. Monetary policy is the same for all countries, although the results are different because every country in the euro zone determines its own fiscal policy.
